Peanut Butter vs. Almond Butter

To nut butter or not to nut butter? Well, that's a no brainer. The bigger question at hand, is what nut butter do you butter with when you butter with a nut butter?

You still with me? I hope so. Because trying to decide between peanut butter and almond butter is a difficult decision. You butter not go there alone.

Peanut butter and almond butter are both healthy and nutritious food choices. Both butters are excellent sources of protein and provide about the same amount of fat and number of calories per serving. Both are also good sources of Vitamin E and beneficial minerals.
When comparing between peanut butter or almond butter, the nutritional benefits of almond butter are a bit better since it has higher amounts of vitamin E, calcium and iron. Almond butter also provides a little more dietary fiber than peanut butter.

Even though peanut butter and almond butter both contain virtually the same amount of total fat per serving, almond butter provides less saturated fat than peanut butter, which is a good thing for almond butter lovers. However, perhaps the biggest differences between these two butters are taste and cost.

Both of these butters are very tasty and are loved by both kids and adults. Some people prefer the nuttier, richer taste of almond butter, but, ultimately, the taste test will be determined by your own personal taste buds.

Why not keep a jar of both butters on hand for snack emergencies?

In general, peanut butter costs less than almond butter. Peanuts are a more common food and you can find peanut butters of varying qualities on every supermarket grocery shelf. Organic almond butter, on the other hand, is not as readily available due to the limited number of organic almond growers. Health food stores will usually carry a brand of almond butter, but if you're looking for homemade quality and organic almonds, your best choice is to search online.

When buying any nut butter, it's important to read the fine print on the label. Many popular brands contain extra salt and other fillers that alter the taste. And some commercials nut butters even include chemical preservatives to ensure a longer shelf life.
